The Albanian Alps
A seriously underrated mountain range full of stunning hikes that I believe rival many of Europe’s most famous.
History
Look out for the bunkers dotted around the country. They are a reminder of the country’s dark past under dictator Enver Hoxha.
The Albanian Riviera
In the south of the country, you’ll find amazing beaches with just a fraction of the amount of tourists in similar places elsewhere in Europe.

Useful resources for visiting
Travelling around the country is a little bit more difficult than it’s neighbours as it is not as straightforward. Here are some useful resources to help make your trip a breeze:
Gjirafa Travel
For transport within the country, there is no way you can book tickets online. Gjirafa Travel shows all the timetables for moving around by furgons.
Moovit
Whilst Google Maps is handy for general directions, you can’t use it city buses. I used Moovit to help me find the right buses to get across Tirana.
VPN
I found that sometimes, I wasn’t able to connect to some websites because they were blocked. Whilst you can get by, if you want to get everything, use SurfShark to keep your connection safe.
